2008 Dinner & Prizegiving
December 6th

What a fantastic dinner and prize giving we had last night. We returned for the 3rd time to The Kingswood Restaurant at London Apprentice. We filled the maximum number of 70 quite easily, especially as there were many regulars missing through various reasons. We sat down to a superb meal, in a boisterous atmosphere. Everyone dressed up to show that we sailors can look very respectable at times when we want to as the accompanying pictures will show. The ladies, in particular looked very glamorous in their finery, managing to outshine some of us gents. The cadets were also dressed to the nines, emulating their parents. Dinner was followed by prize giving, which was the culmination of the racing season that started as far back as the middle of March and took us through spring, summer and autumn to almost the end of November. Results were read out by Ken and prizes presented by Kay. A special award was made to Maria Eastham for her work in getting the Cadet section up and running. We now have about 18 youngsters who take part in various activities within the Club with the majority of them sailing, which is a necessity for the Club to thrive in the future, when us wrinklies finally have to quit! Maria's cadets presented Simon Pryce with a cheque for over £200 which the cadets have raised through fund raising during the season. Simon is trying to raise £30000 for the RNLI.

Guests for the evening were Guy & Mary Morgan, who very generously loaned their boat for Committee boat for the RS800 Nationals. Guy & Mary have been associated with the Club from its very early years and were members of the inaugural Scorpion fleet that the club adopted in 1961. Music for the night was presented by the “Dirty Living Rhythm Band” who are an excellent band and hit just the right blend of music for the night, to get everybody up and boogying We were also pleased to see Roger Lewsey, Commodore of Pentewan Sands SC and his wife Jackie attending again and enjoying the evening.
