2011 Club Walk
February 27th

Preparing to set off

Porthpean Sailing Club's walks good luck continues......... Rain in St Austell area first thing in the morning did not bode well for the proposed walk around Mount Edgcumbe Country Park later. Meeting in the car park at Cremyll, all those that were gathering wondered how wet they were going to get as, although it had stopped raining it was still overcast.

After the customary photo shoot Tony led the way out of the car park. The route was of a circular anti clockwise direction following the estuary inland. It was soon obvious that Tony had not done a pre walk recce !! No one was concerned though and as if by magic the sun came out. working out which way to go is always better when the weather is good.

The terrain was muddy under foot and probably more undulating than was expected however the mood was upbeat . It has to be said that the views and scenery were,( once out of the woods, literally ) really stunning. Cutting inland towards Maker church and then beyond to pick up the coastal path again overlooking Plymouth Sound. It was now getting easier as it was downhill most of the way back to Cremyll. Some 2 1/2 hrs after starting out all were safely back at the start point and all that remained was to go to the Edgcumbe Arms PH for lunch.

A table for 20 had been reserved so all sat together. As it was a sunday lunchtime, the place was busy and there was a delay for some for the food. This did not detract from what was a really good February walk when yet again the weather was kind.
