Now I know that this is confusing, when you look at the title at the top of the page. We are in 2013 but the prizegiving is for the 2012 season.
Christmas is well and truly over, New Year has been welcomed and we are now almost half way through the first month of the year. I imagine that perhaps thousands of dinners and social gatherings were cancelled on Saturday night due to the bad weather that has infected most parts of the country but fortunately not us and the annual dinner and prize giving was held as arranged. However it was very, very cold outside but inside warm and hospitable. This year we tried a new venue to us, “The Cornwall Hotel”. This is Cornwall’s newest and possibly smartest hotel and conveniently for us just happens to be in St. Austell, and what a splendid place it is. The only downside is that we had to restrict numbers to 75, which meant that it was a sell out weeks before. Our numbers at dinners does fluctuate and as such it makes it very difficult to judge the size of venue wanted. As it was we could have probably sold another 20 tickets. However it did make Anna’s job a little easier as she didn’t have to go round chasing people to see whether they were coming or not. Just for a change they were chasing her.
We were greeted with a glass of Bucks fizz and shortly afterwards we all sat down to our cordon bleu dinner, and very nice it was too. I don’t think I was alone in waiting for roast potatoes, but I discovered that there was only mashed potato and that was hiding underneath the meat! There had been a good selection of food to choose from and my choice turned out to be excellent for me. It was well presented and tasted great.
There was a plethora of raffle prizes, 29 in total and the raffle was drawn before we had the presentation of prizes that we had spent just over 9 months of 2012 sailing for. In fact sitting down afterwards, with drink in hand, knowing that it was freezing outside was difficult to comprehend that we would be sailing again in only 10 weeks time.
Jeremy & Suzanne took most of the Tasar trophies and Nick Eggett the majority of the handicap trophies, but there were still lots of other trophies to be picked up by others as the pictures below show. Once again I was wandering the room with my little point and shoot camera and these plus other pictures taken by Chris Bilkey are shown below.
