2014 Club Walk - Goran Haven to the Dodman
January 11th

Ready for the off

The annual Club walk was held much earlier than normal this year. It was actually scheduled for 4th January, but the gales and storms that swept across the UK meant that it had to be cancelled, but hey ho only a week later the weather changed round remarkably and a small but perfectly formed group of summer sailors gathered at Gorran Haven for a walk up onto the cliff path towards Vault beach They say the sun shines upon the righteous, and never was an adage proved so true. Everyone set off in good spirits; eight walkers and two dogs. We paused at the bottom of Foxhole Lane and discussed the feasibility of a summer sail for fish and chips on the beach at Gorran Harbour. It was agreed, given a favourable wind, it would be a great social sail. By the time we got to the Gruda, which runs above Vault Beach, we were down to shirt sleeves and carrying our coats. The path to the cross at Dodman Point was not too muddy, and after a short moment of piety, us righteous ones cut across the fields to Penare Farm, before dropping back to Gorran Haven. A long, lazy lunch at the Crown in St Ewe completed a perfect day out.
