Pete & Jan organised the 2nd club walk of the year and very cunningly arranged it for a beautiful sunny day, which came as a very welcome respite to the cold, wet & windy days we had during the preceding days. The meeting point was the car park at Lerryn and it was a very good response of 17 people and 2 dogs who turned up for the 10.30 start. Once assembled a group photograph was taken and then without much further ado we were off, using the stepping stones in the river to cross to the Lostwithiel side. Another cunning plan was to arrange the walk for a low tide at mid day which meant that not only were the stepping stones available as we set off but were still uncovered by the now rising tide when we returned. I think we could still have crossed the river but it would have meant some more walking and after almost 2 ½ hours I had had enough. The walk took us down the river bank but Pete told us that it was very muddy on his proposed route and so after a while we took off across country and used the roads to get to St. Winnows Church, a very peaceful little Church almost down on the water’s edge. We then walked along the river bank and through the woods and eventually arrived back at Lerryn where the pub proved a very welcome place to sit, drink and eat and more importantly rest our weary feet. The weather stayed sunny for most of the walk though at one time rain threatened but fortunately never materialised. I set up a walking app on my phone and according to that we covered some 9.02 Km so quite a long walk for quite a few of us. It was a walk that Sue & I haven’t done before and we found it very interesting and one that we might well do next summer on a nice sunny, warm day. I think very special congratulations should be made to Thomas Dazza, who is only 10 but managed to complete the walk without any complaints.
