2014 Dinner & Prizegiving
January 25th 2014

It certainly doesn’t seem like 12 months ago that we all sat down to the annual dinner and prize giving night. Yet here we are, once more, with most of us gathered again in the warmth and conviviality of the Bosun’s Diner for the 2013 Prize giving and dinner. Outside the wind was blowing at quite a lick, certainly too strong for any sailing. As it happens we are just about half way through our winter sailing break, which started at the end of November and will recommence again at the end of March. Already we can see that the mornings and evenings are starting to draw out, and the count down clock shows that the sailing season is now less than 60 days away.

It was a very smart set of Gentlemen & their Ladies both mature and young who sat down for the meal that started the evening off in style. Very surprisingly, numbers were down somewhat this year. It seems that exotic holidays for some, career & job demands for others plus other pre arranged functions depleted us to just over 60 members & guests. Nevertheless it was still a first class evening on what must be now our 4th or 5th visit to the Bosun’s Diner. Personally I find this quite an ideal venue for our dinner as there is plenty of room for our normal numbers; Tables can remain in situ whilst the dancing takes place and everything, including the bar is in the same room so it helps keep everyone together.

After a very filling meal we had the presentation of the cups and prizes by Nigel & James for the 2013 sailing season. For a change the spread of trophy winners was better this year although Jeremy & Suzanne dominated the fast handicap fleet and Paul & Kelvin dominated the slow fleet. The prize giving was followed on by a well supported raffle & I think I heard that the raffle raised some £90 which in itself was an excellent effort. Thanks to Jan & Pete who arranged the evening for us and thanks to all our members who made the effort to make the evening the undoubted success that it was.

I was wandering the room with my little point and shoot camera trying to get a flavour of the evening. Clicking on any picture should produce an enlargement of higher quality.
