Porthpean Sailing Club

2016 August BBQ
August 29th

August 29th Bank Holiday Monday, that means crowds flocking to Cornwall to take in the local beaches and the scenery. So it was at Porthpean beach. However for the lucky few club members that decided to take advantage of the organised Social sail it was even better. A glorious sunny day and light breezes was ideal for the long distance pursuit race to the South West Water Mark and back. Pete and Jan kindly manned the safety boat and did the time keeping. This being a handicap race, boats set off at intervals, the slower ones going first. Sailing in the conditions, blue seas and calmness was to rival the Mediterranean !!

The race was won by Andrew and Jenny Kendall in their Scorpion, followed closely by Nick Haskins in his Laser and then Jeremy and Suzanne Hawkins in their B14. Once ashore it was time to sit around on the clubhouse decking for snacks and drinks in the sun. The wind died down after lunch and no further sailing took place. The day didn't end there though. Andrew and Jenny had organised a BBQ and fired up at about 5pm. All those that had booked a meal started to arrive and the club soon started to buzz again and after a really tasty platter of meats and salads we were treated to ice creams.

Eventually everyone gathered in the clubhouse for Tony's Tin Can Alley competition. As usual teams of four played against other groups. After three rounds of knocking down the tins, the winning team of Brian, Jenny March, Colin and Lynn collected their prize of chocolate goodies.

So completed another event in the life of Porthpean Sailing Club and enjoyed by all.

Lionel was on hand to take a few photo's. See below.
