Porthpean Sailing Club

2016 Fitting Out Supper
March 26th

The eve of yet another sailing season saw the traditional fitting out supper held in the Clubhouse. After 2 weeks of reasonable weather that saw the temperature starting to climb at last to respectable levels we resorted back to unsettled weather which looked like being the harbinger of doom for the first race of the season scheduled for tomorrow, the first day of British Summer Time, but maybe more pertinent Easter Sunday; a Bank Holiday!!

Once again our Social Secretary, Tony Dunn, came up trumps, providing a meal that he had cooked himself and I believe aided by his lovely wife, Lynne who made the sweet. The meal was a chicken casserole followed by apple and plum cobbler smothered in hot custard. This was a truly scrumptious meal and enjoyed by all. I also believe that there was a veggie alternative for those with a liking for that sort of thing.

The meal was followed by another Tony Dunn devised quiz. The questions on the whole were not too difficult, but there were one or two more obscure questions that probably separated the winners from the losers. I am pleased to announce that the quiz was won by the Cruisers team, consisting of Dave & Janet Preston, Jenny & Peter Pope and Lionel, Sue, Neil & James Rigby.

The newly refurbished changing rooms are now ready for the season and to reward his very hard work an award was presented to Steve Wingrove. Now I know Steve felt somewhat embarrassed as there were quite a few other members who had given up a lot of their time to help renovate the changing rooms. It certainly wasn’t a one man band renovation and the Club remains indebted to everyone who lent a hand in whatever way they could.

So there we are; all ready for another season, good and poor weather alike, light and heavy breezes to come which I am sure will tax everyone who competes. Good luck everyone.

Once again David Bailey toured the room taking pictures of the assembled guests as can be seen below. Clicking on any picture should download an enlargement.

Thanks to Tony & Lynn for organising a very enjoyable evening.
