Meal & Quiz in the Clubhouse

Earlier on this season, Tony, our esteemed Social Secretary, decided that we should have a monthly social and true to his word, the November social, consisting of meal and quiz enlivened up the Clubhouse and at only £3.00 a head proved to be the bargain of all bargains.

Our long hot summer has passed away and tonight we were faced with a journey down to the Club in the dark, accompanied by a very strong, cold, easterly breeze. Winter is almost here and “No sailing for us tomorrow” was the mantra that we would be using during the evening.

Tony spent the day preparing the food which consisted of chopped tomatoes with chorizo, butter beans & onions over roast potatoes, and a nice savouring aroma greeted us as we arrived.

A good turnout of over 40 people gathered at the club to be served a bowl of hot food. This was really welcome after battling the elements outside. After we had eaten it was time for the entertainment to start. To get us all in a fun mood, Tony decided that we should re-live our childhood days by singing, “One Finger, One Thumb Keep Moving “complete with the actions!! Most of us joined in even those that couldn't remember the nursery rhyme. Its hands up time; I didn’t join in!!

After that it was on to a 40 question verbal Quiz & a 15 Picture Quiz. Although most of the questions seemed easy, there were still a few that taxed the brains of the teams. Nevertheless at the end there was a winning team (Andrew’s team) who won the chocolates. They showed the Porthpean spirit and shared their spoils amongst us all. All in all another good night enjoyed by all.

For a change I didn’t take my camera. I get the impression that some people don’t really like their picture being taken so not to make anybody squirm, the camera stayed at home. However the next big social will be the Christmas dinner meal at the Brit and I will have my camera with me then. After all it is probably the only time of the year when some of us will be dressed a bit smarter than normal, so it is well worth recording; be warned!!
