Prizegiving for 2018
January 26th 2019

The sailing season of 2018 was one of many contrasts. Ages, Boats, Weather.
St Austell Bay was the familiar home of the Porthpean Sailing Club fleet.
Different dinghies in different classes sailing against each other on handicap.
Many sailors over the season won awards and all were rewarded at the prizegiving evening at the sailing club on Saturday 26th January 2019.
Trophies were ordered and engraved and the clubhouse readied .
Despite it being a wet and very windy evening, club members turned out in force for one of the highlights of the year.
As is now customary, a buffet was provided by all those attending. A magnificent feast was awaiting and after a few words of welcome from Paddy, our commodore, we filled our plates and tucked in.
It was soon time for the Prizewinners to be announced and Ken our Sailing Secretary, assisted by Paddy did the honours of handing out the trophies.
I think it would be only fair to say that one couple, Jan & Pete Barnes sailing their Kestrel dinghy, dominated on the water throughout the season. They won most of the series that they entered. They are certainly the ones to beat in 2019.
Well done to all the winners and to all who attended to make this another successful night at Porthpean.
Lionel, our resident photographer was unable to attend on this occasion and so it was left to me to take a few photo's. As you can see below, I'm no “David Bailey” but as with sailing, I'll try harder in the future to improve !!
