Prizegiving for 2019
January 25th 2020

The Prize giving evening at the sailing club is traditionally the first Social event of the new year. As was the case this year. However, it is the hard fought racing of the previous season that sees the winning sailors collect their trophies.
The evening started with a buffet provided by those attending. The range of food was really a sight to see and tasted even better.
Once we had quenched our appetites it was time for the awards to be given out.
Ken, our Sailing secretary and Paddy the Commodore made the presentations to the lucky winners. The winners might prefer the words good sailors rather than ' lucky'.
Mention should be made of a new trophy that was awarded this year. Lionel Rigby sadly passed away at the beginning of the 2019 season. He was always keen to encourage sailing and to that end he instigated a cup to be presented to the sailor who had sailed most during the year. The first winner of ' Lionels Cup ' was Nigel Dowrick. It was fitting that Sue presented the cup to Nigel. I'm sure that in years to come more names will be added as the cup will be keenly contested for.
A full club house at the start of a new year bodes well for the future. Here's to a successful seasons sailing in 2020.
