2012 Fish & Chip Supper
February 11th 2012

I don’t know what it is but the allure of eating fish & chips in the Clubhouse on a cold night in February, seems to bring in the crowds every year. Once again we had a bumper turnout of over 50 members, friends & family to attend what is now the well established fish & supper night. Yes it really was cold and also frosty as we walked down from the carpark to the Clubhouse and quite a white sheen was to be seen on all the dinghy covers in the yard. The sky was brilliantly lit by a myriad of starts that looked so bright given that there are no street lights to spoil the spectacle, down by the beach.

This was our first social after the new floor covering had been laid and was much admired by everyone. Once again the fish & chips were supplied by Fernley’s from Mount Charles and I guess that they would have taken quite a time to cook so many at one time , but they all arrived clearly marked, with people’s names on the packets and still hot. The meal was followed by home cooked brownies with ice cream and then eventually we got down to the serious part of the night; a Tony Dunn quiz.

There were 61 questions in all, the first 15 were a picture quiz, and although at first the pictures didn’t seem too hard, it wasn’t long before many faces were giving off puzzled expressions as we ummed and arrghed as to who some of the faces belonged to, and there were several groans and “I told you so” from certain members of the teams as the identities were revealed. The quiz was a very good balance of some fairly easy questions to some extremely hard ones, giving every team a chance of getting some high scores. I thought that this time I was going to be on a winning team again, but we were thwarted by the team of Clive Stephens & his wife, Harry & Polly Fryer, and Chris Millard, who scored 3 more than we did.

The countdown clock is showing 6 weeks to go before sailing starts again and judging by the talk in the Clubhouse those 6 weeks won’t go by quickly enough, though with the outside temperatures that we are still enduring, I for one am prepared to wait a little longer. Actually we will all have to wait a day longer this year as 2012 is a leap year and there is an extra day to be taken in February.

The next social evening, in only 6 weeks time, will be the fitting out supper, which as per normal will be a fancy dress night and the theme this year is centred on the Olympics, which gives a lot of scope for some interesting costumes.

Thanks go to Anna for organising a very successful evening and again thanks to Tony Dunn for another intriguing and brain stretching quiz.

The pictures below, were taken during the evening.
