Once again there was a fair number of people who crossed the threshold of the Club on a not very cold evening. Rain has been the most consistent format of weather most days this year and to be fair, just for a change, today proved to be an almost ideal spring day, with the sun making a very welcome appearance and the temperature climbing into double figures. I even managed to take the cover off my boat for some essential maintenance. However the rain returned for the evening's social, so everything once again reverted back to normal.

For many years now our F&C have been supplied from Fernley’s F&C shop at Mount Charles, but the shop has now closed and may not ever reopen, so the net was cast around (see what I did then) to find an alternative supplier. Our F&C tonight were supplied by Walker's F&C shop. Tony had arranged with them in advance to supply our order and at about 19.45 he appeared through the Clubhouse door with a large box containing our supper, to be consumed by the anticipating members. Mushy peas were already in the oven and were provided by Tony. Paddy provided genuine rock salt and that combined with vinegar and sauce for those who wanted it proved to be the icing on the cake. Ice creams were provided as a sweet and in no time at all we were all feeling fully replenished.

Tony had a new game for us tonight, one that denigrated the dignity of all who tried it. The game was to knock over some empty beer and lager cans with a ball. Quite easy you may think but not quite so easy when the ball is suspended between your legs and you had to almost squat to get the ball low enough to strike the cans. Most people, accompanied by ribald laughter had a go but the winner with the quickest time was James, showing that in this game it was youth and agility that won out over the more mature members.
