Porthpean Sailing Club |
The countdown clock was ticking away the last few hours as the last social event before the sailing season officially starts was held last night. A smaller than normal turnout was offset by a very imaginative number of fancy dressers for the "Tramps & Scarecrows" theme. Our hosts for the evening were Tony & Lynn Dunn, who provided a superb meal of stew, followed by an assortment of sweets, comprising Strudels, ice creams & trifles. Sue & I were rather naughty in as much as we turned up in our ordinary clothes, though many suspected that I was dressed as a tramp, so I got away it. Anyway it must have been our lucky night as we both won prizes in the raffle. The mega music quiz took place afterwards, & I must admit it was trickier than normal as there were a total of 60 questions with a selection of music from the 50s right up to the present day, so ample opportunity for those of all ages to compete. This was followed by a "name that tune" competition, which caused quite a bit of hilarity with the eagerness of the various teams to come up with the right answers. Fortunately my right hand man, James, was able to spot the first hands up (disputed by some). The winning team turned out to be the Commodore's, who must have been studying their musical knowledge beforehand. All in all a very pleasant night & a big thankyou to Tony & Lynn.
