Strange as it may seem for a sailing Club, most of our annual hikes involve treking somewhere on the coast!.
This year things were slightly different when we arranged an inland walk. Over 20 members, friends and dogs met at
Respryn Bridge on a chilly but dry February morning. After various greetings and admiring the different sorts of atire
we set off through the woods, alongside the river, (yes water features yet again) heading in the general direction
of Lostwithiel. The river was looking very clear as it swept along. James Dowrick found a stick that doubled as
a walking stick, gun and sword and acted as our scout, running around, protecting us from wild beasts and goblins.
After leaving the woods we crossed into a field before joining a quiet tarmac track that passed
alongside Restormel Water Works. Several trains passed us as they scurried up & down the County.
Soon Restormel castle hoved into site, looking very forbidding sitting on the hillside overlooking us.
After a total distance of around 3 miles we entered into Lostwithiel. Here we broke up into 3 groups, each group going to a different
pub for some welcome refreshments. We arranged to meet at a common rendevous after lunch and retraced our walk
back to Respryn. Each leg of the walk taking just over an hour.
In summary, Pete & Janet provided us with a very scenic walk, that was not too long nor arduous. Thank you very much.
